RCF platform for exchange - 21/11/12 Beirut29.08.2012 Following the “RCF-Mobility” conference in Fès in 2006 and the “Istikshaf” platform meeting in Alexandria, June 2012, the Roberto Cimetta Fund will be organising a platform for exchange in collaboration with the Institut français de Beyrouth. This meeting receives the support of the Institut français, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. It will also group together members of the Istikshaf platform, a project funded by the European Union. This one-day exchange platform and capacity building seminar will take place on Wednesday 21st November 2012 at the French Institute in Beirut. Participants will be invited to arrive one day earlier to meet local actors and take part in a working session of the Istikshaf platform. If you would like to look at the preliminary programme, or download it, please click here.
The aim of the exchange platform will be threefold: to offer artists and cultural operators the possibility to set up networks and organise their own advocacy together with non-cultural funders/actors; to reconsider a geographical area of intervention that embraces the wider Europe, Mediterranean and Arab countries, reflecting the reality of artistic mobility in this region ; to engage in more mutual and efficient actions between actors involved in artistic and cultural mobility through the Istikshaf platform. Here the content of the discussion will focus on professional practices, circulation of artists and works, interdependence that could help to strengthen the capacities of the sector.

This year we are offering 3 workshops; one on finding your inner clown that is suitable for participants of any background, the second focuses on storytelling skills for young storytellers, and the last on the power of storytelling for educative purposes.
To register for any of these workshops please send an email to lubna@al-balad.org with your name, contact details, and a short paragraph describing yourself and your work and why you wish to take part in this workshop by the 1st of September 2012. If you are not residing in Jordan and wish to take part in the workshops please apply to a travel grant from Safar fund (www.safarfund.org) at the same time as you apply for the workshop to expedite the travel grant selection process.
Description of workshops: Find your clown Conducted by: Ashwath Batt (India) Dates: 15 - 17 September 2012 Location: Al-Balad Theatre (upper theatre) Participants: 10 - 15 participants of any background. Description: Together the trainer and participants will explore the vulnerability and the 'stupidity' of our playful spirits ranging from the ridiculous to the grotesque to the innocent. Comedy often makes us laugh but doesn't manage to touch our hearts. When we work from a place of personal truth and with the vulnerability of the clown, our comedy reaches a much deeper place. This class will explore that place where you go beyond gags and finding your clown who can touch the hearts in a way that makes our comedy more universal and makes us laugh from the gut. During the workshop, participants will also be given a brief history of clowning, and will be shown the possibilities of using clowning in various places such as hospitals, and open new possibilities of telling stories using clowning. Language: the language of the workshop will be English, consecutive interpretation will be provided if necessary. Storytelling for young storytellers Conducted by: Praline Gay-Para Dates: 11 - 14 September 2011 Times: 10 AM - 5 PM Location: Dar Al-Anda (TBC) Participants: Maximum of 12 participants, above 20 years old Description: The workshop is geared towards young storytellers who would like to improve and professionalize their storytelling techniques using physical and verbal methods. Praline specializes in training teachers and animators on storytelling for educational purposes. Participants from previous workshops with Praline are encouraged to re-apply. Language: The workshop will be conducted in Arabic. |

ECLAP08.06.2012 ECLAP - the e-library for performing arts - is a social network and best practice platform for digitized performing arts heritage and it is part of the Europeana family (www.europeana.eu). ECLAP is bringing together performing arts collections (videos, photographs, texts, essays, etc.) cultural institutions across Europe. Many of these have never been made accessible online until now. On behalf of the community of archives, libraries and museums with performing arts collections, we ask that you help us by participating in our survey that we are holding in order to determine best practices in the digital performing arts field. In recent years there has been a growing demand for reliable data about digitisation, access to digital heritage collections, and the preservation of digital heritage materials in the memory institutions of Europe. The performing arts are new to this field and it is precisely for this reason that your support is imperative. Please take the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ECLAPBP2012 Aim of the survey: We are gathering both quantitative and qualitative data for a Best Practices report in organisations with performing arts collections about the topics of the three ECLAP Working Groups:
People working in organisations that have performing arts collections, and who are knowledgeable in one of the three topics above. You do not have to answer questions about all three, you can pick which one you are most suited to fill out. The survey will take about 30-60 minutes to fill out. Please take the time to answer the questions as detailed as possible. The survey contains some general questions about your organisation's budget, number of staff and other question you might have to consult with other staff members about. To this end, you can view and download a PDF version (http://bit.ly/ECLAPBP2012) of the survey for reference, which we highly recommend you read before proceeding. ECLAP ensures the privacy of your responses. We do kindly ask that you provide information that allows identification of your organisation’s name and country in the survey in order to assure the quality of our findings and to be able to compare results. However, we will NOT identify any of this information in the final Best Practices report. Best Regards, the ECLAP Team. |

Open Call - RCF travel grants04.01.2012 Open Call : deadline 31/01/2012
We are launching an open call for travel grants from 1st to 31st January 2012 in the framework of two partnerships with Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture and with Marseille-Provence, European Capital of Culture 2013.
The RCF/Guimarães 2012 fund is open to artists and cultural operators in all artistic disciplines from the Euro-Mediterranean-Arab region[1] whose travel project will take place between Guimarães and the Euro-Mediterranean-Arab region and/or in relation to a project linked to Guimarães 2012. Priority will be given to projects in music, performing arts, cinema, visual arts, design and architecture, preferably in the framework of a residency. The RCF/Marseille-Provence 2013 fund is open to artists and cultural operators from the Euro-Mediterranean-Arab region whose travel project will take place from a country of the South and East coasts of the Mediterranean to another country of that same zone or from a country of the South and East coasts of the Mediterranean to Europe, preferably other than France. Only in exceptional cases will mobility from a European country to a country of the South or East coasts be considered; the same applies for mobility linked to countries of the Arabian Gulf. The aim of the trip needs to be linked to the Marseille Provence 2013 project and/or the area of Marseille Provence 2013 (which extends from Arles to La Ciotat through the Pays d’Aix). Candidates must also respect the general criteria of RCF which apply to these specific funding lines: 1) The aim of your trip must directly or indirectly show potential for a constructive and long-term impact on the arts sector in the Mediterranean basin. This means that your travel must contribute to your own capacity building, which in turn can be shared in a “networking” fashion that will benefit connecting artists and operators in your own country or region so as to maintain, renew and develop contemporary arts. 2) New criteria: Your trip can take place as soon as the call opens but in this case you run the risk of buying your ticket without knowing if the application is successful or not. 3) Applicant’s profile - No nationality or age criteria. Applicant lives or works in the Euro-Mediterranean-Arab region. - Profession: performers, creators, teachers, cultural organisers, administrators, project leaders. - Financial means: applicants who are unable to find the financial resources themselves. 4) Applications must be made on an individual basis by email to grant@cimettafund.org. Only 3 members of a group can apply for a grant concerning the same project. A grant holder can only reapply twice. Applicants must choose the cheapest form of transport and can only apply for one international return travel ticket and visa costs (local transport is not reimbursed).
The date of the next selection is: 1st April 2012 (Deadline for receiving applications: 31/01/2012)
If you want to apply, please click on the section "apply for a travel grant" and fill in the questionnaire. The appropriate application form will be sent to you. Please fill it in and return it to grant@cimettafund.org before 31st January. For more information on the Guimaraes 2012 project, please check the following website www.guimaraes2012.pt. Presentation of the Fund in Portuguese16.09.2011 Resumo do documento sobre o Fundo Roberto Cimetta

TransEuropeHalles MEETING 7421.08.2012 Bottom Up! - Independent Culture and Its Impact on Politics and Society 27–30th September 2012 - Röda Sten Art Centre & Konstepidemin, Gothenburg, Sweden Independent culture can be a powerful lobbying force in political discourse and in various processes of change such as urban planning, it is unfortunately not always on the agenda. Through a number of workshops and interactive presentations at this meeting, we will investigate and develop new, far-reaching methods and approaches aiming at creating an impact on audiences, policy-makers and the public. This may involve mobilizing advocacy campaigns, learning about public policy and decision-making or how to use artistic expression as a means of attract public attention. All these action initiatives come from the Bottom Up, instead of from the Top Down, where free culture must adapt to the decisions made from above. Through examples and lively discussions, the conference will illuminate the value of culture. It will also inspire independent cultural operators to engage in direct action. Public Debate - 24/05 Portugal03.05.2012 In collaboration with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Guimarães, European Capital of Culture 2012, the Roberto Cimetta Fund will be organising a one-day event on the theme « International Artistic Mobility and Territorial Diplomacy » on Thursday 24th May 2012 at the Cultural Centre Vila Flor, Guimarães, Portugal. The seminar is conceived as an informal gathering of stakeholders. The format of the day’s programme is divided into two parts: the morning will be a closed session for the Board members, experts and funders of RCF; the afternoon will be a public debate, open to all, where participants can voice their opinions openly and meet panellists directly during speed-meetings.
Key stakeholders (artists, cultural operators, local and regional representatives or institutions) from Arab, European and Mediterranean countries will be able to discuss the complex issues at stake in the Euro-Arab region, further dialogue and develop local and regional strategies for artistic mobility. At a time when geographical concepts are adapting to the new axes of global exchange and alliances are being formed at regional and local levels as a consequence of the building of Europe, RCF would like to reassert the need for a cultural partnership between Europe and the Arab world. Investing in artistic mobility is not only an individual moment of political responsibility but has long term spin-off effects on the appropriation of global cultural products, identity building and new forms of cultural expression that can be source of renewal in the country of residence as well as the country of origin.
Registration is free. The programme can be downloaded here. To register please write to info@cimettafund.org
On 23rd May the experts and Board members of RCF will hold their annual meetings. On 25th May the members of On the Move will meet for a discussion on the Charter for Sustainable and Responsible Artistic and Cultural Mobility before their annual General Meeting.
